Gender Scholar Award
About
The Women's Caucus, housed in the College of Arts and Sciences promotes an academic culture of inclusiveness at 色色啦 Michigan University in research, teaching, service and administration. To support and encourage efforts in this area, the Women鈥檚 Caucus offers this award annually for a faculty member who demonstrates excellence in gender-related research and scholarly activities.
Award winners receive a plaque/award, are honored at the college faculty and staff award ceremony held during the spring semester, and will be asked to present their work publicly during the spring semester at a 色色啦 community event. In addition, award winners receive $1,000, which is deposited into their departmental WRAP account, which can be spent following university policies for WRAP expenditures.
2023 Recipient Information | Dr. Lusike Mukhongo
Dr. Lusike Mukhongo is an associate professor in the School of Communication at 色色啦 Michigan University. She has experience researching participatory digital cultures, global media, and mobile technologies. She is a recipient of research awards and fellowships such as Mozilla Common Voice (2022), Africa No Filter (2022), British Academy (2013), Coimbra Group Fellowship (2008), and Germany Academic and Exchange Service-DAAD (2005). She is also a member of several professional associations, such as the International Association of Media and Communication Research (IAMCR), the National Communication Association (NCA), and the Association of Internet Researchers (AOIR).
She has published her research in peer-reviewed publications such as:

- Africa Spectrum, Sage Journals
- Gender and Development, Routledge Journals
- Ada: A Journal of Gender, New Media, and Technology
- Triple C. Communication, Capitalism & Critique
Deadline for Nominations
Nominations are due February 15 of every academic year while funds are available.
Nominee Eligibility
All board-appointed College of Arts and Sciences faculty, both emerging scholars and established faculty, are eligible.
Criteria for Award Selection
High quality work and contributions advancing knowledge in an area of research that has a gender focus.
