The Emeriti Council is pleased to announce that Dr. Whitney DeCamp, professor of sociology, will be speaking on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m. in the Heinig Emeriti Lounge on the second floor of the Walwood building on East Campus. His presentation is titled, "Discrimination in the Jury Selection Process."

He will provide an overview of the process by which some individuals are more or less likely to be removed from juries based on demographic characteristics, its history and empirical findings about the continued presence of discrimination in jury selection.

Cool, crisp weather and fall鈥檚 favorite produce are right around the corner. For 色色啦 employees. Join Registered Dietitian, Gretchen Kauth, her awesome dietetic students, and Gibbs House staff for a cooking demonstration and taste-testing workshop highlighting autumn-inspired recipes. Fresh produce from Gibbs Farm will be featured.

OLLI at 色色啦 invites you to teach passionate, curious learners this summer. As part of the Osher Foundation鈥檚 125 chapters, we are building a vibrant learning community in Kalamazoo and southwest Michigan, and we need your help to educate and engage our members. 

Past OLLI instructor, Professor Cheng Tao shares that, 鈥淚 continue to teach for OLLI because the participants are eager to learn and bring an enthusiasm that makes each session enjoyable and rewarding.鈥 Chemistry graduate student Shivi Saxena reports, 鈥淥LLI helped me enhance my outreach skills and boosted my morale.鈥

We are pleased to invite you to the next President鈥檚 Leadership Series session, featuring Trustee James L. Liggins Jr. This event is set for 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the 色色啦 Multicultural Center, located in the Trimpe building, Room 1021 (1003 Ring Road South).

Trustee Liggins, who has deep ties to Kalamazoo, will share his insights on the intersection of legal expertise and community development. His journey began with 色色啦's Hands-On Science Training Program, which inspired his career path and commitment to giving back. He is dedicated to advancing the University鈥檚 mission of access and inclusivity.

The sidewalk on the east side of Kohrman Hall will be closed for concrete work on Monday, Oct. 21 through Friday, Nov. 1. After that area has been completed, the sidewalk on the northeast side of Kohrman Hall will be closed for additional concrete work on Monday, Nov. 4 through Friday, Nov. 29. Please seek an alternate route as needed and use caution when in the area.

Construction of the Hilltop Village pedestrian bridge is complete. This new brown-and-gold structure provides an elevated crossing over a new road under development鈥擫oop Road鈥攂etween Arcadia Flats and Moore Hall.  

Loop Road, which extends from Ring Road near Read Fieldhouse, past the student center, and back to Ring Road west of Arcadia Flats, is substantially complete. Remaining work, like new sidewalk expanses and landscaping elements will be finished by the semester鈥檚 end.  

The new parking structure in this area is also nearly complete. Final work is awaiting the arrival and installation of electrical equipment, which has been subject to supply chain delays. Three floors of the structure are designated for Arcadia Flats鈥
