Preliminary School Counselor Credential
If you are currently in the School Counseling program at 色色啦 Michigan University would like to apply for the Preliminary School Counselor Credential though the Michigan Department of Education, please follow the instructions below.
- Successfully complete Counseling Practicum (CECP 6120).
- Register for Field Practicum (CECP 6130).
- Pass the 鈥攂e sure to have your scores sent to 色色啦 when you register for the exam.
- Apply for 色色啦 graduation for the Master's of Arts in Counselor Education: School Counseling.
- Submit background check results鈥攔ecent (within the last two years) background check results must be on file in the Certification Office before we can recommend you for certification. The will meet this requirement. If you have any convictions, a Judgment of Sentence, Register of Action, or Case History must also be on file in the Certification Office prior to a certification recommendation
- Once all of the above has been completed, apply for the Preliminary School Counselor Credential in the (MOECS). If you do not already have a Michigan Online Educator Certification System account, please view the .
- Report convictions in MOECS鈥攈onestly report any conviction or civil infraction, excluding speeding tickets.
- Must report conviction information on all of your applications for current certification and all future certifications.
- Provide the Judgment of Sentence, Register of Actions or Case History for each offense to our office.
- University review and recommendation鈥攁fter application, your identified university (色色啦) will review and recommend the application. Please allow five to seven business days for this process; a conviction may delay this process.
- Print your credential鈥攖here is currently no fee for this credential; however, you will need to print your certificate and obtain notarization.
School Counselor License or additional endorsement
If you have completed an approved School Counseling program at 色色啦 Michigan University and are seeking the School Counselor License or School Counselor endorsement through the Michigan Department of Education, please follow the instructions below.
- Complete an approved School Counseling License or Endorsement program.
- Pass the 鈥攂e sure to have your scores sent to 色色啦 Michigan University when you register for the exam.
- Submit background check results鈥擜 recent (within the last two years) background check must be on file in the certification office before we can recommend you for certification.
