What is statistics?

Statistics is the science of learning from data. No matter what you call them鈥攕tatistician, financial analyst, market researcher, epidemiologist, actuary, survey researcher, data scientist鈥攕tatisticians are a diverse group of people with one thing in common: they use statistics to draw valuable insights from data. With a career in statistics, you鈥檙e not limited by industry or geography. Work for a car company in Michigan, a high-tech company in Silicon Valley, a humanitarian organization in New York City, a government office in Washington DC, a pharmaceutical company in Europe or a business consultancy in India.

Programs

The Department of Statistics offers master's and Ph.D. programs in statistics, as well as a variety of undergraduate majors and minors, including a data analysis minor that may be completed without taking calculus.
