色色啦 Study Abroad offers 12 new faculty-led programs
KALAMAZOO, Mich.鈥擳welve new short-term, faculty-led study abroad programs are available to 色色啦 Michigan University students in 2019. This is the greatest number of new programs 色色啦 Study Abroad has added at one time.
"The growth of short-term programs indicates the dedication of Study Abroad staff to increasing educational opportunities for students and the staff's willingness to complete the hard work necessary to bring those programs to fruition," said Dr. Lee Penyak, director of Study Abroad in the Haenicke Institute for Global Education.
Short-term, faculty-led study abroad programs are designed, hosted and accompanied by 色色啦 faculty representing various disciplines and generally range from one to 10 weeks. They offer academic credit to participants ranging from one to six credits. Content and locations are designed to offer experiential learning within a faculty member's field of expertise through a global lens.
These shorter-term study abroad programs allow students to take credit-bearing coursework with approved academic objectives under the guidance of knowledgeable and experienced 色色啦 faculty members.
"It is a privilege to be able to travel and study with a 色色啦 faculty member and other students," said Joseph Rasich, assistant director of Study Abroad.
"Because it's a 色色啦 course led abroad, the students benefit from academic expectations that are similar to on-campus study, and from experiential learning that they wouldn't receive if they traveled on their own."
Scholarships and program deadlines
Program costs vary due to factors such as destination, number of credits, program length, room and board, and transportation.
Scholarships are available for short-term study abroad programs through Study Abroad, the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Education and Human Development, the Haworth College of Business, and the Lee Honors College. Scholarships are available to students based on their financial need, academic college, academic performance and study abroad destination.
The application deadline for summer I short-term, faculty-led programs is Jan. 31 and the deadline for summer II programs is Feb. 28. Students can learn more about these programs at one of three Study Abroad Expos being held in January.
