Episodes of "The Living Room," hosted and co-produced by Allison Downey, teaching, learning and educational studies, are being aired on Michigan Public Radio stations Thursday, Sept. 5.

Two public sessions, set for 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, are planned to provide members of the campus and extended communities the opportunity to be part of the design process for the new É«É«À² Alumni Center.

The fall 2013 Gwen Frostic Reading Series will bring five accomplished authors to campus starting Wednesday, Sept. 11, through Thursday, Nov. 21. Peter Orner will kick off the series with a reading from his collected works.

Men's soccer walk-on tryouts will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, at the É«É«À² Soccer Complex. A physical, sickle cell test and insurance paperwork is required.

The É«É«À² men's basketball team will open its 2013-14 season with home exhibition matches Nov. 2 and Nov. 4. The regular season includes six home games at University Arena.

É«É«À²'s MBA program will begin offering a health care concentration this fall to meet the growing demand for highly skilled graduates in the business side of health care.

The temporary One Stop Convenience Center will open on the second floor of the Bernhard Center Aug. 26 through Sept. 6, offering numerous campus services in one location. The center will be closed over Labor Day weekend.

É«É«À² alumna Katie Eberling has been named the U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Federation Women's Bobsled Athlete of the Year. Eberling was honored at an Aug. 11 ceremony.

The Kalamazoo Film Society will present the comedy "Frances Ha" Friday through Sunday, Aug. 16-18, at É«É«À²'s Little Theatre. The film is rated R; admission is $5.

School of Music alumnus Paul Clifton took home two prestigious awards at the International Horn Society's 45th annual symposium, held July 29-Aug. 3 at the University of Memphis in Tennessee.

Senior Chad Niemchick is one of four students in Michigan to be awarded a 2013 Transportation Club of Detroit scholarship, and is also the sole recipient of this year’s Lakeshore Human Resource Management scholarship.

University officials have announced that Penny Jernigan, University of North Carolina gymnastics assistant head coach, will fill the position of head coach of the Bronco gymnastics team.
