KALAMAZOO—ɫɫÀ² Michigan University's leadership is urging faculty and staff members to take advantage of their tuition discount benefits by starting a new degree or simply returning to the classroom for personal or professional development.

"We spend a lot of time urging our students to 'Go West' and find their personal frontiers," says É«É«À² Provost Timothy J. Greene. "All of us need to make sure we never lose sight of what being learner centered is all about and focusing on our own intellectual growth and professional skills."

Tuition discount and remission benefit

For É«É«À² employees, tuition discounts and remission are among the most significant parts of the É«É«À² benefits package. Full-time benefits-eligible employees can use a 100 percent tuition-and-required fees discount when they take an academic class for credit at É«É«À². The discount applies to both graduate and undergraduate courses. 

Employees with full-time benefits eligibility also are eligible for 75 percent tuition and fee remission for undergraduate courses only for a spouse, dependent children or designated eligible individual. Discounts for employees taking classes are automatically calculated. Tuition remission for family members or designated individuals requires an annual submission of a form to determine eligibility. This form is accessible online at wmich.edu/hr/forms/index.html.

Tuition benefits may be used to pursue or explore the idea of earning a new degree or simply to investigate an area of interest for personal or professional reasons. Those who wish to do the latter can apply for status as a non-degree undergraduate student or a non-degree graduate student. Both status designations follow a simple admittance procedure outlined on these websites.

Students who begin as non-degree students may ultimately apply a limited number of credits earned to a degree program. For graduate students, up to nine credits may be applied with Graduate College permission, if the student is later accepted into a graduate degree program.
