In our Accelerated M.A. or 鈥4 + 1鈥 program, undergraduate English majors can earn their M.A. with only one additional year of course work. How? Up to 12 credit hours earned in your senior year can count toward both your Bachelor鈥檚 and Master鈥檚 degrees. This cuts the number of credits hours for an M.A. from 30 to 18. It also lets you pay undergraduate rates for nearly half of your graduate degree.
Who can apply?
Declared English majors with senior status, at least 45 earned credit hours, and a minimum GPA of 3.0 (cumulative) and 3.5 (English).
What do I need?
3 letters of recommendation
a personal statement describing career objectives and academic/professional interests (at least 750 words)
a thesis-driven essay on a literary or scholarly topic (8-12 pages double-spaced)
Interested?
Students interested in applying should contact the English Graduate Director early in their junior year.
This program held so much more benefit than just saving me time and money; I discovered my passions for teaching, worked directly with professors to send my writing out to publication, and met so many gifted scholars, writers, and friends. I highly recommend this program to anyone who loves learning and desires to build upon their professional and academic interests.
