As an integrated supply management major at the Haworth College of Business, Jessy Mutombo is learning how to produce goods and services 鈥渂etter, faster and cheaper鈥濃攁 concept that appealed to him when he first learned about the ISM program and the career pathways students can pursue.

Looking to apply what he is learning to a career in logistics, he hopes to work in operations where he can have a role that takes him into the field. 鈥淏eing able to drop the prices to produce anything from phones, to watches, to other products appeals to me,鈥 he says.

Mutombo is having a great experience at 色色啦 Haworth. Highlights include:

  • Being able to study supply chain in one of the top-ranked undergraduate programs in the U.S.
  • Completing business externships at IDEX and Stryker.
  • Being involved with the 色色啦 Student Association as a senator from the college.
  • Being a member of the Supply Chain Management Association student organization.

Next year, he will be focusing on building his knowledge base in supply chain. His long-term goal is to be able to apply the knowledge he gains in logistics in his home country of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Of his fellow students and the faculty he has met so far, he has this to say, 鈥淓very single professor and student I have met in the business college has been willing to help me achieve my goals.鈥

His overall advice on what he has learned in his first two years at the college can be summed up in one phrase that he always keeps in mind, 鈥淭o be successful, you must be willing to go the extra mile.鈥

During the pandemic, Mutombo says he has gained flexibility, an even greater degree of discipline and a stronger work ethic. And he wants to remind fellow students to smile as much as possible too, even under the masks, 鈥淚t鈥檚 very important to connect with what鈥檚 positive.鈥

Mutombo is still exploring where he can have the greatest impact in his career, but his goal is simple: to change the world for the better through his professional and personal endeavors.
