Dr. Carrie Barrett has been an outpatient orthopedic and neurologic physical therapist since graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2007 with her entry-level master鈥檚 degree in physical therapy. Prior to that, she earned her bachelor鈥檚 degree in clinician laboratory sciences/medical technology in 1995 from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Upon receiving her clinical doctorate in physical therapy (DPT) in 2011 from Shenandoah University, she continued on contract as a mentor of case report writing which has resulted in peer-reviewed journal publications. In addition to her ongoing clinical work, Dr. Barrett is currently serving as a neurology adjunct instructor at Bryant & Stratton College in the Physical Therapist Assistant program.
In 2015, Dr. Barrett earned board certification as a Neurologic Clinical Specialist (NCS), which is the highest specialty practice designation through the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). She became a certified clinical instructor through the APTA in 2011 and has served as a clinical instructor for both full-time formal and shadowing experiences. Clinically, she has practiced in both the inpatient and outpatient settings working with orthopedic, neurologic, and acute care conditions. For the past 5 years she has held the role of department site manager with oversight of 17 clinical employees as well as indirect oversight of several other departments, allowing for interprofessional collaboration in patient care. Her primary research areas of interest include the investigation of physical therapy outcome tools as well as interventions for post-concussion injury in the adult and geriatric populations.
