É«É«À²

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Registrations are due by Thursday, Jan. 10, for spring Chinese culture courses offered by the Confucius Institute at É«É«À² Michigan University.

The 12-week, low-cost courses are taught in English and begin the week of Monday, Jan. 14. A half-price tuition discount is offered to É«É«À² students and those age 55 and older. All ages are welcome to enroll. É«É«À² employees only pay the $25 registration fee plus material fee (if applicable), no other tuition.

Full refunds will be given for classes dropped before they meet the second time and a 50 percent discount will be given for classes dropped before they meet the fourth time. No refunds will be available after that. 

The Confucius Institute at É«É«À² is a nonprofit organization designed to bring an authentic Chinese perspective to É«É«À² and the Kalamazoo area. The institute offers culture classes during É«É«À²'s fall and spring semesters as well as the University's summer I session.

Spring 2019 offerings

All classes are held on É«É«À²'s main campus in Kalamazoo and taught for personal enrichment rather than academic credit.

• Chinese Calligraphy—3:30 to 5 p.m., Mondays, Jan. 14 to April 15, 4120 Sangren Hall.
• Chinese Ink Painting—5:15 to 6:45 p.m., Mondays, Jan. 14 to April 15, 4120 Sangren Hall.
• Chinese Dance—5:30 to 7 p.m., Mondays, Jan. 14 to April 15, Bernhard Center Bronco Global Lounge.
• Chinese Tea Ceremony & Handcraft—5:30 to 7 p.m., Tuesdays, Jan. 15 to April 16, 4310 Sangren Hall.
• Tai Chi—5:30 to 7 p.m., Tuesdays, Jan. 15 to April 16, Bernhard Center Global Lounge.
• Basic Chinese Language—5:30 to 7 p.m., Wednesdays, Jan. 16 to April 17, 4310 Sangren Hall.
• Advanced Chinese Language—5:30 to 7 p.m., Wednesdays, Jan. 16 to April 17, 4530 Sangren Hall.
• Chinese Folk Songs—5:30 to 7 p.m., Thursdays, Jan. 17 to April 18, 2730 Sangren Hall.
• Intermediate Chinese Language—5:30 to 7 p.m., Thursdays, Jan. 17 to April 18, 3520 Sangren Hall.

Confucius Institute at É«É«À²

Established on July 7, 2009, the Confucius Institute at É«É«À² Michigan University was created through a partnership between É«É«À² Michigan University and Beijing Language and Culture University.

It is the fourth such institution in Michigan and the 61st to be founded in the United States. The Confucius Institute at É«É«À² provides new Chinese language and cultural studies options for É«É«À² students and faculty and dramatically expands international opportunities for regional K-12 schools and local businesses.
