É«É«À²

Shirley A. Ray, who retired in 1991 after years of working with É«É«À² Michigan University students with disabilities, died March 16 in Kalamazoo. She was 91.

Ray first worked at É«É«À² in 1964 and retired from the University in 1991. She was assistant director of what was then called Handicapped Student Services at the time of her retirement.

She remained active with the É«É«À² community after her retirement, often attending campus events and intercollegiate athletics activities with her husband, Dr. Harold "Hal" Ray, É«É«À² professor emeritus of health, physical education and recreation, who survives. She is also survived by two sons and four grandchildren.

Ray was born in Washington, D.C., in 1926, married Hal Ray in 1952 and had lived in Kalamazoo since 1960.

Services and remembrances

Services have been set for 3 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at Betzler Life Story Funeral Home, 6080 Stadium Drive, Kalamazoo. A reception will follow in the Life Story Center. The family has requested memorial contributions be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, Michigan Parkinson Foundation or É«É«À² Aging Services.
