College Readiness Workshops running for high school students and families

Make a smooth transition to college.

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—ɫɫÀ² Michigan University's Office of Precollege Programming is sponsoring workshops in Metro Detroit on Wednesdays throughout May for high school sophomores and juniors and their families to help them make a smooth transition to college. É«É«À² Wednesday College Readiness Workshops will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on May 3, 17, 24 and 31.

Workshop activities

  • Gain insights on being successful in college.
  • Learn about selecting the right major and career.
  • Learn about searching and applying for scholarships.
  • Learn about financing college—state scholarships, financial aid tips and more.
  • Learn basic financial literacy—College Budgeting 101.

  • May 3, "What Makes a Good Scholarship Candidate?"—Franklin Wright/ Youthville, 7375 Woodward Ave., Detroit
  • May 17, "College Budgeting 101: Basic Financial Literacy"—Franklin Wright/ Youthville, 7375 Woodward Ave., Detroit
  • May 24, "What would you like to do in life? College Major vs. Career"—Troy Public Library, 510 W. Big Beaver Road, Troy
  • May 31, "How to Finance College – State Scholarships and More"—Troy Public Library, 510 W. Big Beaver Road, Troy

To register, send an email two days prior to the workshop to @email. Include:

  • Student's name
  • Student's high school
  • Student's grade level (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior)
  • Total number of people attending
