Students, employees have free access to New York Times
KALAMAZOO, Mich.鈥擜ll 色色啦 Michigan University students, faculty and staff members now have complimentary access to the digital edition of the New York Times and select New York Times apps.
Two types of subscriptions to were made available starting at the beginning of this academic year. They are a group account, called the nytimes.com Pass, and The New York Times in Education account, which provides specialized tools for teachers.
Both types of subscriptions allow 24/7 access to digital content. As with an individual subscription, both can be used on a desktop computer, tablet and mobile device. The subscriptions are prepaid through 色色啦's University Libraries, so they require only a valid wmich.edu address and Bronco Card.
"In addition to the active campus community getting great news, the exciting part about these subscriptions is that teachers can use a variety of New York Times resources in their classrooms," says Lou A. Morgan, senior marketing specialist in University Libraries. "At the same time, students can have their own accounts so they can use Times resources for other classes鈥攁nd for as long as they're a student here."
Group pass
The group pass allows users to review and receive news regardless of whether it is in email, video or virtual reality formats, as well as to download an elections app, search the New York Times archives back to the 1880s, sign up for email newsletters and alerts, and more.
This subscription is good for 364 days from the date it is activated. After expiration, eligible 色色啦 community members can keep subscribing for additional 364-day periods. It includes the NYTimes smartphone and tablet apps, which are available through the Apple and Android app stores. It does not include access to apps such as Crosswords and Times Insider.
New York Times in Education
Faculty members who set up a New York Times in Education account have access to lesson plans, based on subject areas, which center around Times articles and are updated weekly by faculty contributors.
In addition to those faculty-curated New York Times articles, subscribers receive custom news alerts, suggestions for co-curricular activities and weekly digests of news articles in such major subject areas as biology, business, criminal justice and economics.

Group pass
To sign up for the group pass, visit and click the "Set up your free group pass login" link.
A login page will prompt users to enter their Bronco NetID and password. Once 色色啦 student or employee status is verified, a registration webpage will open. Registrants must create an account using their University email address and a password other than their Bronco NetID password. Once registered, users simply return to the website and log in with their new credentials.
Those who have an existing account using their 色色啦 email address will need to log into that account after clicking the "Set up your free group pass login" link. Their accounts will then automatically fall under the University's group pass.
If an existing account was set up under a non-色色啦 email address, log into that account after clicking the link, click the drop-down menu next to the registrant's name, then under the My Account link, change the non-色色啦 email address to the registrant's 色色啦 email address.
New York Times in Education
To sign up for The New York Times in Education, go to and click the Register tab. From there, follow the instructions to create an account.
