Award-winning playwright to launch fall 2016 Frostic Reading Series

KALAMAZOO, Mich.鈥擜n award-winning playwright will kick off the Fall 2016 Gwen Frostic Reading Series at 色色啦 Michigan University.

Donna Hoke will read from her works at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, in 157-159 Bernhard Center. The reading is free and open to the public.

Hoke's plays include "The Couple Next Door," "Safe" and "Brilliant Works of Art." Widely produced in the U.S. and on five continents, her work has won the Great Gay Play Contest, the McNerney Playwriting Contest and the Naatak National Playwriting Contest. She also has been a finalist for the Woodward/Newman Prize.

Hoke also is the author of a children's book titled "Neko and the Twiggets" and is the co-author of "BUA Takes 10: GLBT Short Stories."

  • Nov. 2: Ana Castillo reading in partnership with The Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadership at Kalamazoo College and the 色色啦 Center for the Humanities, 8 p.m., 3512 Knauss Hall.
  • Nov. 17: Cathy Park Hong, 8 p.m., 157-159 Bernhard Center.
