Four public career-related events coming up at É«É«À²

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—ɫɫÀ² Michigan University will be the site for four upcoming career-related events that are open to the public but aimed at the University's students and recent alumni.

All of the events are free, and no pre-registration is required. Three are being held on É«É«À²'s main campus and being organized by the Zhang Career Center in the Haworth College of Business.

The remaining event is being organized by the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences and being held on É«É«À²'s Parkview Campus. This campus, which is home to the engineering college, is located near Parkview Avenue and Drake Road in Kalamazoo.

List of upcoming events

Those planning to attend the following upcoming events should wear professional business attire and bring copies of their resumes. Details about É«É«À²'s largest public career fair, the annual winter Career Fair, will be released closer to its Thursday, Feb. 9, event date.

  • ISM—Integrated Supply Management—Career Night will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, in the Bernhard Center's West Ballroom on the main campus.
  • The Engineering Expo will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, in the main lobby of Floyd Hall on the Parkview Campus.
  • Marketing, Food/Sales Marketing Career Night will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, in the Fetzer Center on the main campus.
  • Business Career Day will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, in the Bernhard Center's East Ballroom on the main campus.

Additional events as well as a wide range of career services are available solely to É«É«À² students and recent alumni, such as discipline-specific practice interview days, resume critiquing, walk-in advising and pre-fair workshops to get help with researching employers, preparing personal marketing materials and more.

In addition, the Zhang Center has a new Career Fair app that É«É«À² students can download for free. The app features career fair 101 tips and job-search information. It also allows users to access specific information about career fair events, such as their dates, times, locations and participating employers, including the employers' booth numbers.

Students can learn about services that are available campuswide by contacting Career and Student Employment Services and learn about services especially for business students by contacting the Zhang Center in the Haworth College of Business.

Description of upcoming events

ISM Career Night

This event gives students a chance to interact with supply chain industry employers in a career fair setting and learn about internship and professional employment opportunities. In addition to recent alumni, supply chain management, industrial engineering and pre-business students are encouraged to attend.

The night is being sponsored by General Motors and organized by the Zhang Center. It will include 12 keynote presentations by participating employers, and some employers will schedule interviews with students for Wednesday, Sept. 21, on the main campus.

Engineering Expo

This event attracts more than 120 employers from around the state, region and nation to promote their organizations as well as recruit for internships and full- and part-time positions.

The expo is being co-sponsored by DENSO Corp. and É«É«À²'s College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Registration isn't required, but all attendees must check in to take part in the event. Some employers will schedule interviews with students for Thursday, Sept. 22, on the main campus.

Marketing, Food/Sales Marketing Career Night

This event is a networking evening for students pursuing internships and entry-level positions in marketing, with a focus on careers in food marketing and in sales, across all industries.

The night is being sponsored by SpartanNash and organized by the Zhang Center. Some employers will schedule interviews with students for Wednesday, Oct. 5, on the main campus.

To prepare for this event as well as Business Career Day, students should attend the Zhang Center's Career Day Prep Event from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, in the Fetzer Center. Featured will be a keynote talk titled "How to do a Career Fair Right" and a panel discussion about internships that business students have completed and how these internships were lined up. There also will be breakout sessions with Consumers Credit Union on personal branding and with CH Robinson on job-search etiquette and negotiation.
