Registration underway for workshops to understand child trauma
KALAMAZOO, Mich.鈥擱egistration has begun for two workshops by the Southwest Michigan Children鈥檚 Trauma Assessment Center at 色色啦 Michigan University鈥檚 Unified Clinics for parents of children who have experienced trauma.
Participants for both groups will be meeting simultaneously from 6 to 8 p.m. on Mondays, April 4 to May 23, on the third floor of the University Medical and Health Sciences Center at 1000 Oakland Drive, Kalamazoo.
These workshops offer a group experience to help participants better understand: what trauma is, how trauma impacts the brain and development, how trauma impacts their children's behaviors and how to respond to and advocate for their children's needs.
One workshop will be specifically geared for foster, adoptive, and kinship care providers and costs $30 for participants. A second workshop will be adapted specifically for biological caregivers who are either still providing care or are working towards reunification with their children. There is no fee, as the workshop is covered by a grant to 色色啦 from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration鈥擲AMHSA鈥攊n the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Participation is limited to 10 families per group.
