"The Mystery of Edwin Drood" is based on the unfinished Charles Dickens novel of the same name. The story follows Edwin, who is engaged to Rosa, though neither loves the other. Edwin’s guardian, John Jasper, is besotted with Rosa. When Edwin disappears one stormy night everyone fears he may be dead. Or is he?

Audiences have the opportunity each night to solve one of the biggest literary murder mysteries ever—Dickens died before penning the novel's conclusion—by choosing the ending that the actors will play out for each performance.

"The Mystery of Edwin Drood" opened at Broadway’s Imperial Theater in late 1985 and played for 608 performances. The show was critically acclaimed and received several Tony Awards, including one for Best Musical.
