Exhibit by Kalamazoo-area artists on display at the Richmond Center
KALAMAZOO, Mich.鈥擳he product of more than 30 Kalamazoo-area artists and writers mulling over the broad concept of "home" will be on display at 色色啦 Michigan University's Kerr Gallery in the Richmond Center for Visual Arts from Thursday, Jan. 15, through Friday, March 6.
"Home: An Artists and Writers Project" is an exhibit more than a year in the making. Many of the artists and writers in the project participated in a series of meetings and workshops, forming new connections and sharing their experiences and inspirations. In addition to their own personal creations, several collaborated on works for the exhibition, conveyed through literary and visual media. The works created for "Home: An Artists and Writers Project" feature a wide range of creative interpretation, encompassing physical, emotional, theoretical and metaphorical points of view鈥攆rom home as a comfort zone to the issues of homelessness and 鈥渂roken鈥 homes.
Reading event planned
The project has culminated in a "Home" companion publication of selected works from the exhibition. Project participants will host a reading event at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, in 2008 Richmond Center. Support for the exhibition has been provided by the Kalamazoo Artistic Development Initiative, a program of the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo.
Gallery hours
RCVA galleries are open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, and noon to 6 p.m. Saturday.
