Registration underway for free Chinese culture workshops

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—The Confucius Institute at É«É«À² Michigan University is accepting registrations for two, one-day Chinese culture workshops planned in November.

The free workshops are taught by instructors from Beijing Language and Culture University and are open to the public. Each workshop is taught in English, and is offered to people for personal enrichment.

Fall 2014 workshop offerings

  • Chinese Paper Cutting—6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, Room 3002 Brown Hall.
  • Chinese Calligraphy—6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, Room 3002 Brown Hall.

Workshop instructors

  • Mingchen Zhao is the instructor for the Chinese Paper Cutting workshop. She graduated from Beijing Language and Culture University with a master's degree in linguistics and applied linguistics. During her seven years of study at BLCU, she has gained extensive knowledge of teaching Chinese as a foreign language and also a greater understanding of other cultures.
  • Baoqing Qian is the instructor for the Chinese Calligraphy workshop. She was born and raised in Beijing, the capital city of China. Growing up in a traditional Chinese family, she learned to appreciate Chinese culture as a very young child.
