Local artist to display work, lead discussion on culture shift

KALAMAZOO, Mich.—ɫɫÀ² Michigan University's Real Talk Diversity Series continues this month with an art exhibit and discussion regarding acculturation and the debate about identity and patriotism.

Psychotherapist and artist Alessandra Santos-Pye of Kalamazoo will present "From assimilation to integration: The acculturation journey of a Brazilian American" from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, in the Multicultural Center in the Adrian Trimpe Building. Refreshments will be provided.

Santos-Pye will provide an interactive dialogue surrounding her exhibit, a series of paintings depicting a shift from "assimilation" to "integration" of "self and culture."
