Kalamazoo, campus communities getting ready for prom night
KALAMAZOO鈥擸oung and old alike are dusting off their dancing shoes and bow ties in preparation for 色色啦 Michigan University's 26th annual Senior Prom, set for Thursday, March 27, on campus in the Bernhard Center's East Ballroom.
No reservations are necessary to attend this semi-formal event, which is free and open to the public. Hors d'oeuvres and other refreshments will be served, and free parking will be available near the Bernhard Center in Parking Structure No. 1.
The prom is an elegant and nostalgic evening that brings area senior citizens together with 色色啦 students and employees for a night of Big Band music and lively swing and ballroom dancing. The evening will feature live music provided by the Otsego Jazz Ensemble and will include dance contests and a photo booth. Pre-entertainment activities, including bingo, will begin at 5 p.m., while the dance will take place from 7 to 10 p.m.
About Senior Prom
The Senior Prom began in 1988 as a way for older 色色啦 alumni and area residents to share an evening of fun and reminisce with current students. The theme for 2014 is The Roaring '20s and will feature decorations inspired by "The Great Gatsby."
The Senior Prom is organized by staff members in the Ernest Burnham-Smith Burnham, and Henry residence halls with the help of volunteers. Financial assistance is provided by several 色色啦 organizations, including the Residence Housing Association, various residence hall councils and the Residence Life office.
