Stulberg Competition silver medalist solos with É«É«À² Orchestra
KALAMAZOO—The É«É«À² Michigan University Symphony Orchestra, in partnership with the Stulberg International String Competition, will present its first concert of the 2013–14 season at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, at Chenery Auditorium in Kalamazoo. The concert features violinist Ariel Horowitz, the 2013 Stulberg International String Competition Silver Medal winner. Admission is free.
The Oct. 6 concert will feature musical works by French composers that revolutionized traditional music and propelled the Impressionist art movement. Works being performed include Emmanuel Chabrier's "Espana," "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" by Paul Dukas and Claude Debussy's magnificent tone poem, "La Mer (The Sea)." Horowitz will perform the hauntingly beautiful "Poeme for Violin and Orchestra" by Ernest Chausson.
Ariel Horowitz
Horowitz, 17, has appeared as a soloist in the U.S., Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Israel, Brazil and Argentina. This year she appeared as soloist and chamber musician with the Indiana University String Academy Virtuosi on a ten-city tour of Argentina and Brazil. She has performed in Carnegie Hall and the Tel Aviv Opera House. Horowitz participated in the Yehudi Menuhin Competition for Young Violinists, Junior Division in Beijing. She won the Morningside Young Artists Award and was featured in the Gala Finale Concert Hand-Over Ceremony at the National Centre for the Performing Arts. Horowitz is a student of Itzhak Perlman and Catherine Cho as a Jerome L. Greene fellow at The Juilliard School in New York City.

The mission of the Stulberg International String Competition is to promote excellence in string instrument performance by gifted young artists under age 20.
