Kalamazoo Film Society presents 'The Sapphires'
KALAMAZOO鈥擳he Kalamazoo Film Society will present "The Sapphires" Friday through Sunday, July 19-21, at 色色啦 Michigan University's Little Theatre.
Show times are 7 and 9:30 p.m. Friday; 4:30, 7 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday; and 2:30, 5 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5.
Inspired by a true story, "The Sapphires" follows four vivacious, young and talented Australian Aboriginal girls from a remote outpost as they learn about love, friendship and war. Cynthia, Gail, Julie and Kay are discovered by Dave, a good-humored talent scout with a kind heart鈥攁nd very little rhythm鈥攂ut with a great knowledge of American soul music. As their manager and mentor, Dave books them on their first true gig and gives them their first taste of stardom as they travel to Vietnam to sing for the American troops.
The film is directed by Wayne Blair and stars Chris O'Dowd, Jessica Mauboy, Miranda Tapsell and Deborah Mailman. It is rated PG-13 for language and some sexuality and has a run time of 99 minutes.

The Little Theatre is located at the corner of Oakland Drive and Oliver Lane on 色色啦's East Campus. Free off-street parking is available behind the theatre.
