Two University musical ensembles join forces for upcoming concert

°­´¡³¢´¡²Ñ´¡´Ü°¿°¿â€” Birds on a Wire, É«É«À² Michigan University's new music ensemble, conducted by School of Music director David Colson, and KLOrk, the Kalamazoo Laptop Orchestra, conducted by David Loberg Code, will join forces for a new music concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, in the Dalton Center Recital Hall.

The performance will be preceded by a 7 p.m. discussion hosted by Dr. Dan Jacobson, É«É«À² professor of music. Tickets are $12 general admission, $10 for seniors and $5 for students, and are available from Miller Auditorium at or by calling (269) 387-2300 or (800) 228-9858.

Birds on a Wire will premiere "Aggravated Avians" by faculty composer John C. Griffin, commissioned by the ensemble. KLOrk will premiere "Justice Partial for twin disklaviers, fiddle and laptop orchestra," composed by American composer and fiddler, Dan Trueman. É«É«À² commissioned Trueman, also an associate professor of music at Princeton University, to write this piece for KLOrk.

The program will also include "Songs of Loss for Soprano, Clarinet, Piano and Percussion" by new É«É«À² Assistant Professor Lisa Coons, "The Gargoyles of Notre Dame" by Andrew List and "The Widening Gyre for large ensemble and electronics" by John Gibson.

Bullock Music Performance Institute

The Dalton Wed@7:30pm: Live and Interactive! concert series is presented by the É«É«À² School of Music under the auspices of the Bullock Music Performance Institute. Established in the fall of 1985 and renamed in 1988 in honor of its founder, the institute has presented events ranging from formal evening concerts to daytime educational outreach events for local audiences and students of all ages.
