Pianist to present multimedia concert
KALAMAZOO鈥擭ew music pianist Kari Johnson will perform a concert of electro-acoustic and multimedia compositions at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, in the Dalton Center Lecture Hall. The free program will feature compositions by Elainie Lillios, HyeKyung Lee, 色色啦 Assistant Professor Christopher Biggs and 色色啦 alumnus Scott Blasco.
Kari Johnson
Johnson, based in Kansas City, enjoys collaborating with established and up-and-coming composers to commission new works for piano and electronics. She has performed at a variety of venues, including Electronic Music Midwest, Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States, the 2011 Thailand International Composition Festival and the Electro Acoustic Juke Joint. In 2012, Johnson released her first commercial CD on the Irritable Hedgehog label, a recording of Blasco's composition "Queen of Heaven," which has received positive critical reviews.
In addition to her active performing schedule, Johnson is on the faculty of Avila University, where she teaches applied piano. She also maintains a large pre-college teaching studio, both privately and through the UMKC Community Music and Dance Academy in Kansas City.
