KALAMAZOO鈥擮rganizers of the 2013 Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration at 色色啦 Michigan University will be accepting applications for sponsored programs and activities through 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2.

色色啦 departments, offices, individuals and organizations, including Registered Student Organizations, are invited to apply for funding grants as well as publicity assistance to support projects that they would like to schedule throughout 2013.

The University will be celebrating King's life and work beginning in January and running throughout the entire year and will be using the same theme as the greater Kalamazoo community: "Seeding the Dream."

Grant proposals submitted for 色色啦 activities and programs should relate to that theme, which challenges people to conceptualize King's legacy of reconciliation in an effort to deepen their own vision of social justice while also fostering the dreams of their youth. Applicants will be notified as to whether they have been awarded funding assistance.

Regardless of whether members of the 色色啦 community are seeking funding support, those planning to hold MLK-related events during spring semester are asked to submit proposals for each of their events so they can be included in the University's publicity for the 2013 celebration.

The upcoming celebration is being organized by 色色啦's MLK Planning Committee under the auspices of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.

Tony Dennis, associate director of diversity recruitment for the Graduate College, is serving as committee chair.

An application form for proposals, along with submission guidelines, is available online at wmich.edu/mlk.
