Cuban scholar to speak about African religious roots
KALAMAZOO鈥擳he African roots of religion in eastern Cuba will be under the microscope this month when a Cuban scholar visits 色色啦 Michigan University.
Visiting scholar MarAa Isabel Berbes Ribeaux will deliver a lecture, titled "Religions with African Roots in Eastern Cuba," in Spanish at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, in 3025 Brown Hall. She will answer questions in both Spanish and English after her lecture.
Berbes is a researcher of popular religion at the Casa del Caribe in Santiago de Cuba and an initiated priest in SanterAa, one of the religions she will discuss.
The lecture and reception are free and open to the public and sponsored by the departments of anthropology and Spanish.
