Canadian roundtable addresses U.S. relations, climate change

KALAMAZOO--A visiting expert in international studies from British Columbia will examine Canadian-United States relations, particularly as they relate to climate change, as part of the Canadian Studies Roundtable 2012.

Dr. Heather Smith, professor of International Studies at the University of Northern British Columbia, will speak at 12:30 p.m. Friday, April 13, in the Brown and Gold Room of the Bernhard Center. Her presentation, "Pondering the Past, Present and Future of Canada, the United States and Climate Change," is free and open to the public.

Smith earned her doctoral degree in political studies from Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, in 1993. Her areas of expertise include Canadian climate change policy, gender and Canadian foreign policy, and indigenous perspectives on climate change.

Her recent publications include "Choosing Not to See: Canada, Climate Change and the Arctic" in International Journal; "Unwilling Internationalism or Strategic Internationalism? Canadian Climate Policy Under the Conservative Government" in Canadian Foreign Policy; and "Disciplining Nature of the Discipline" in Canadian Foreign Policy in Critical Perspective. She is also a 3M National Teaching Fellow.
