General summary
Designs, documents, facilitates, and oversees the development of courses, instructional materials, and learning experiences. Provides instructional design leadership and expert support.
Major duties
- Oversees the course and learning experience development process to ensure courses, learning experiences and instructional materials are developed in a timely manner and in accordance with existing University policies and procedures for accessibility, professional standards, and best practices.
- Organizes and oversees the documentation, tracking, and reporting of instructional design team projects.
- Leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of quality standards related to online, hybrid, and flexible courses. Provides quality control oversight for online course development and identify opportunities to encourage compliance with accessibility and content standards and make improvements.
- Provides project management support and expert instructional design leadership to other instructional designers. Oversees training of new instructional designers and assists with management of workload.
- Develops high-level instructional materials and coordinate with other staff members to optimize learning and meet advanced course development and instructional needs.
- Collaborates with subject matter experts and departments to gather and document instructional goals and requirements. Provides expert learning object development and logistical support to instructors, academic departments, and the instructional design team in the development of instructional materials.
- Leads the development and presentation of programs, workshops, and materials on topics of teaching, learning, and educational technology. Collaborates with other staff to create visual, audio, and interactive learning tools and on-demand teaching and learning content.
- Ensures accessibility and inclusive practices.
- Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises student employees.

Required education
- Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Three years' relevant experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience in the assessment of projects and learning needs.
- Advanced knowledge of instructional design theories, models, and best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative to solve problems.
- Ability to work on and manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Experience using various Learning Management Systems.
- Demonstrated experience designing online, hybrid, and HyFlex learning experiences.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
