General summary
Directs the maintenance services and skilled trades division of Facilities Management. Oversees and manages budgets, personnel and compliance of collective bargaining agreement.
Major duties
- Establishes policies and procedures for the maintenance and safety of University buildings. Develops and implements strategic maintenance plans focused on risk management, compliance, energy reduction, and customer service.
- Ensures the fiscal integrity of maintenance operations through regular forecasting and review to make recommendations for the University budget.
- Evaluates division and unit effectiveness. Develops programs and initiatives that meet the professional and technical training needs for staff.
- Compiles and presents complex information in a concise format for use in decision making by senior staff.
- Oversees labor relations. Ensures a productive and safe work environment and compliance with human resources policies, procedures and collective bargaining agreements.
- Works with other University departments when appropriate in developing bid specifications and contract documents for contracted services beyond the capabilities of the University to handle.
- Leads response efforts to campus facilities emergencies.
- Develops and implements deferred and long-term maintenance plans.
- Hires, trains and evaluates performance of full-time and part-time staff and outside contractors.
Minimum qualifications

Required education
- Bachelor鈥檚 degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Five years' relevant experience.
- Supervisory experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in a facilities maintenance position.
- Experience in a facilities operations position.
- Budget management experience.
- Project management experience.
- Experience administering a collective bargaining agreement.
Required other
- Ability to access roof tops, small, confined spaces and work in high noise environments.

Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
