General summary

Manages all aspects of support services for students with disabilities campus-wide. Maintains a working knowledge of relevant practices, mandates, and legislation to ensure the University is in compliance. Promotes and advocates for understanding and awareness of programs, needs, and innovation in terms of disability services through multiple modes of communication across campus.

Major duties

  • Directs departmental operations, including budget management, scholarships, and vendor relations. Directs workflow and procedures, with focus on student accommodation processes. Ensures alignment with University and Office of Diversity & Inclusion policies.
  • Evaluates and implements student disability accommodations in compliance with federal laws. Coordinates with campus departments to ensure proper accommodation delivery and compliance. Advocates for students and educates University community on disability rights.
  • Hires, supervises, and evaluates all full-time staff in the department. Maintains a positive, professional and safe work environment for all employees.
  • Assigns departmental representation on University committees, orientations, and state and national associations. Builds K-12 partnerships to support student recruitment and transition.
  • Collaborates with Admissions to assist students with disabilities through the University enrollment process.
  • Monitors and enhances academic success initiatives within for students with disabilities to improve retention. Analyzes data and trends, gather stakeholder feedback, and promote Universal Design principles among faculty and staff.
  • Collaborates with relevant University parties to coordinate internship and career opportunities for students with disabilities.
  • Communicates with Vice President for the office of Diversity and Inclusion to maintain and improve operations of the office. Provides information necessary to resolve any concerns.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Three years' relevant experience.
  • Supervisory or lead experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations governing access and accommodations for disabled persons.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
