General summary

Manages and oversees staff, budgets and educational training curriculums for the sports medicine clinic.

Major duties

  • Responsible for reconciling the University health center鈥檚 finances. Provides signature authority and approval rights.
  • Directs and oversees health center operations, strategic planning, policies and procedures. Manages operating budget and administrative duties. Oversees orthopedic supplies and durable medical equipment.
  • Manages and maintains contracts and business agreements.
  • Serves as a liaison to student affairs business operations.
  • Evaluates and treats orthopedic and muscular injuries. Provides X-ray coverage as needed for diagnostic services. Assists with the review of X-rays, appropriate referrals and treatment methods.
  • Provide education and in-services to students and fellowship physicians on splinting & casting treatments.
  • Designs and implements job specific abilities testing for University employees and potential employees.
  • Stays up to date on current licenses and guidelines, insurance, billing, and coding procedures.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises staff and student employees.

Minimum qualifications

Required education

  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years' relevant experience.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • In-depth understanding of management and operations of an integrated health center, physical therapy, athletic training, massage therapy, and sports medicine physician fields.
  • Experience with all aspects of budgeting, staffing, and employee relations.
  • Knowledge of current physician, physical therapy, athletic training, and massage therapy licensure guidelines and documentation requirements.
  • Knowledge of current insurance, billing, and coding requirements.
  • Knowledge and experience with durable medical equipment including documentation, insurance and billing requirements.
  • Knowledge current educational requirements for the physician fellowship program, athletic training, and physical therapy.

Required other

  • Michigan Athletic Training license or licensure by Michigan Board of Physical Therapy.

Physical requirements

Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
