Dr. Raja Aravamuthan joined the Department of Chemical and Paper Engineering in 1986, and is the advisor for the chemical engineering program. He has his undergraduate degrees in chemistry (1965, ITT, Madras, India) and chemical engineering (1968, ITT, Madras, India); he has his M.S. in paper science and engineering (1981 S.U.N.Y., Syracuse, N.Y.) and a Ph.D. in fiber and polymer science (1985 UW, Seattle, WA).
Aravamuthan has done extensive research in the areas of pulping and bleaching and non-wood fibers, process modeling and simulation, deinking and the use of enzymes in pulp and papermaking processes. He has also conducted a series of training courses for ink industry professionals.
He has published more than 40 articles or book chapters in the pulp and paper related fields.
