KALAMAZOO, Mich.鈥Dr. Jennifer Foster, Assistant Professor in Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology in the College of Education and Human Development, had three papers published during the summer of 2017. The first was titled, 鈥淭he Fears and Futures of Boy Victims of Sexual Abuse: An Analysis of Narratives,鈥 which appeared in the Journal of Child Sexual Abuse. This was a qualitative analysis of boys鈥 narratives about child sexual abuse.
The second was, 鈥淚t Happened to Me: A Qualitative Analysis of Boys鈥 Narratives About Child Sexual Abuse,鈥 which is in press with the Journal of Child Sexual Abuse. This follow-up study explored how boys describe their life prior to, during, and after sexual abuse in the form of trauma narratives and if there are distinctive features of boys鈥 experiences that differ from those of girls.
Finally, Foster published, 鈥淎 Survey of Students鈥 Knowledge About Child Sexual Abuse and Perceived Readiness to Provide Counseling Services,鈥 in The Journal of Counselor Preparation and Supervision. In this study, 304 master's level students in counselor education and counseling psychology were surveyed to explore their knowledge about child sexual abuse and perceived readiness to provide related counseling services. Implications for student training and recommendations for counselor preparation programs were delineated.
