Dr. Roberts honored with Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity award

KALAMAZOO, Mich.鈥Dr. Tangela Roberts, assistant professor in Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology in the College of Education and Human Development at 色色啦 Michigan University was honored with the American Psychological Association (APA) Division 44 Society for the Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity 2019 Early Career Psychologist Engagement Award. This award is given to support ECP leadership, advocacy, and mentorship within Division 44. During the 2019 APA annual meeting Dr. Roberts presented a poster paper with counseling psychology doctoral student Zari Carpenter on 鈥淚mpact of Community Involvement and Community Comfort on Black LGBTQ Well-being鈥.

Dr. Roberts also presented a paper titled; 鈥淔or Us by Us: Exploring the Impact of Available Community Supports for LGBTQ+ Adolescents of Color鈥 and Co-chaired a symposium called "Relational and Institutional Challenges and Multiple Minority Stress among LGBTQ People of Color. Counseling Psychology doctoral student Angela Lewis also presented in this symposium. Her presentation was titled "The impact of relational trauma of Black bisexual women". Dr. Robert鈥檚 line of research focuses on the experience of individuals whose identities lie at the intersection of race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation.
