Bronco Spotlight: Steve Rudderham
Head of Global Business Services at Akzonobel, Amsterdam
I lead a global team of approximately 2500 professionals, who provide services to the organization in areas like finance, collections, procurement, IT, and HR services. We have five delivery centers around the globe that I look after, and the main aim is to standardize processes as much as possible and bring value to the company through better data and insights, as well as improving both the customer and employee experience.
What is the most rewarding and the most challenging part of your job?
The most rewarding piece is the people. As a leader it's about developing and coaching the people around you and inspiring them to execute on their roles but also develop themselves and their teams. The challenge becomes having enough time for everyone!!
What activities, resources, or people helped you prepare for your career?
Taking the road less traveled was always what I was told to help my career. Try different things and differentiate yourself. I have three very good mentors that I can always turn to, and that has been invaluable.
What advice do you have for students?
Find a good coach, and someone that has an interest in you, then work on your brand and exposure. Get used to life in a fishbowl and prepare for that. Know who you are.
