Earth Observation Computational Scientist at the Irish Centre For High End Computing, National University of Ireland
I conduct research in earth observation which utilizes the images taken from satellites to study environment. My position requires the skills in environmental sciences, remote sensing, geographic information system and programming to undertake research.
What is the most rewarding and the most challenging part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is the opportunity to work in national and European scale in the field of earth observation which was my dream career. I find myself very fortunate to be able to work in the field of cutting-edge technologies and ideas. With these rewards, the challenges are always there when I have to keep myself updated and knowledgeable with changing advancements, but in the end, every challenge teaches us.
What activities, resources, or people helped you prepare for your career?
I used to work for Michigan Geological Survey at the Department of Geological and Environmental Sciences which helped me a lot to shape me professionally and intellectually. In addition, my doctoral research was immensely helpful for me to pursue what I dreamed of.
What advice do you have for others pursuing a career similar to yours?
For people who would like to purse career similar to mine, I would like to suggest that there is nothing more than work experience while you are at school no matter how big or small they are. Please take advantages of every opportunity available that will help you demonstrate that you are qualified and motivated. It is so easy to get distracted in school, but just follow what you love in small steps, one day at a time.
