Bronco Spotlight: Jennifer Nitzel
Administrative Associate at Zoetis
My role on the Zoetis administrative team is to provide organizational support to the Animal Research Support (ARS) Executive Director and Leadership team, and together we join the mission and contribute to the success of our Veterinary Medicine and Research Development organization. My main responsibilities are to prepare and track purchase orders, process invoices, maintain and update our internal department websites, coordinate candidate interviews, onboard new colleagues, arrange meetings, manage distribution lists, travel booking, prepare PowerPoint slides for presentations, and coordinate departmental initiatives. I also assist in aspects of global animal welfare compliance and the Ethical Review Board as needed.
Which of your skills had the biggest impact on your success?
Having the opportunity to take the Gallup Clifton Strengths was a helpful endeavor in learning about myself and my strengths. Using my strength of Harmony, I actively listen to the ideas and perspectives of colleagues. I see common threads which aid us in moving a project forward. My strength of Discipline breaks down our team vision into manageable steps that benefit us in achieving our goals according to deadlines.
What advice do you have for others pursuing a career similar to yours?
My advice for fellow Broncos is to maintain a growth mindset. Learning is not achieved by happenstance. We must set our sights on learning, write our goals on paper and speak them into existence through persistent actionable steps. Our goals should include building self-awareness, learning to look beyond ourselves toward the needs of others, and achieving tangible skills. I have come to realize that a worthy goal is rarely easily accomplished. I have learned much about myself and my world for going through the process. I have been both humbled and delighted as I worked to achieve my goals.
