Bronco Spotlight: James Reif
Director of Operations at Great Lakes Air Ventures
As Director of Operations I run the day to day operations of a part 141 and part 61 flight school. I instruct students, teach the ground school, and provide a supervisory role to the functions of the school. I handle applications and accreditations with the FAA, and make sure our students stay on track throughout their training.
What is the most rewarding and the most challenging part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is helping people achieve their goals, and witnessing the joy that aviation has to bring to everyone. The most challenging part is finding enough time in the day to get everything done!
What experiences impacted the choice of your career path?
The experience that impacted my career path the most was experiencing being away from family for the first time at college. This showed me that I would rather have a job that I鈥檓 home every night instead of constantly traveling. I love teaching and love aviation, so instructing and managing a flight school fits perfectly with my lifestyle.
What advice do you have for students looking for their career after college?
The best advice is to keep your options open. Aviation always has new opportunities at your doorstep that you may not have known existed. Don鈥檛 put all of your eggs in one basket, instead branch out and try new jobs in the industry to see where you find the best fit for your career.
